Tomato, Heirloom Black Zebra from France (Organic)
Weight: 500
The tomato originated in Central America, where it was cultivated by the Aztecs. The Black Zebra Tomato is a unique Heirloom variety known for its striking appearance, rich flavour, and ease of cultivation. This variety is celebrated for its complex flavour profile, which includes hints of sweetness and smokiness. It is less acidic than many other tomatoes.
This strain is often referred to as juicy, sweet and smoked. It is this balance of flavours that makes it taste interesting. It is delicious cooked in gazpacho, jam, sauce or tart. Of course, do not hesitate to taste it fresh, by making a multicoloured salad.
These small balls will be the go-to of your aperitif!
heirloom tomatoes can be divided into the following 4 categories, namely:
family hairlooms,
commercial heirlooms,
mystery heirlooms, and
created heirlooms.
These original tomatoes generally have a shorter shelf life (should be eaten within one or two days after picking) and are more susceptible to various diseases than hybrids. However, they were planted based on various factors such as historical preferences, food tastes, expanding species diversity, and retaining the seeds of the original varieties of species.

Compared with other hybrid tomatoes, original tomatoes have a sweeter taste and more color changes
An heirloom is something that has been passed down for generations through family members. Examples are a family bible, antiques, weapons or jewellery. An heirloom plant, heirloom variety, heritage fruit (Australia and New Zealand), or heirloom vegetable (especially in Ireland and the UK) is an old cultivar of a plant used for food that is grown and maintained by gardeners and farmers, particularly in isolated communities of the Western world.[1] These were commonly grown during earlier periods in human history, but are not used in modern large-scale agriculture.
Heirloom tomato cultivars can be found in a wide variety of colors, shapes, flavors, and sizes. Some heirloom cultivars can be prone to cracking or lack disease resistance. As with most garden plants, cultivars can be acclimated over several gardening seasons to thrive in a geographical location through careful selection and seed saving.
Selection of heirlooms, plus one hybrid, the Early Girl (second largest red)
Some of the most famous examples include Aunt Ruby's German Black, Banana Legs, Big Rainbow, Black Krim, Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Chocolate Cherry, Costoluto Genovese, Garden Peach, Gardener's Delight, Black Zebra, Hawaiian Pineapple, Hillbilly, Lollypop, Marglobe, Matt's Wild Cherry, Mortgage Lifter, Mr. Stripey, Neville Tomatoes, Paul Robeson, Pruden's Purple, Red Currant, San Marzano, Silvery Fir Tree, Three Sisters, and Yellow Pear.
There is some controversy as to whether Black Zebra should be considered an heirloom tomato. Some people don't consider it an heirloom quite yet, while others consider it either an heirloom, "modern heirloom" or "created heirloom." Common varieties include Black Zebra, Black Zebra, Big Zebra, and Red Zebra..
