Yanliang melon is a specialty of Yanliang District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, and a national agricultural product geographical indication. Yanliang melon has a long history.

The melon production area in Yanliang has a temperate semi-humid and semi-arid continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 13.6 degrees, precipitation of 537.5 mm, sunshine of 2026.8 hours, a frost-free period of 215 days throughout the year, four distinct seasons, and a mild climate, especially in spring and summer, with sufficient light and a sharp temperature difference, which is very suitable for melon production.

On November 15, 2010, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China approved the registration and protection of the geographical indication of agricultural products for "Yanliang Melon".
