It is a bright red fruit, known locally in Southeast Asia as the "fruit from heaven." Because of its mild and non-irritating effects, gac fruit has long been considered a health-preserving remedy for those with weak constitutions, children, and pregnant women in Vietnam. It has also gained recognition among local residents and is renowned as the "preferred ingredient for postpartum care."
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the seeds are used medicinally. Also known as *Gac fruit* or *Gac fruit shell*, they are warm in nature, bitter and slightly sweet in taste, and poisonous. They function to reduce swelling and detoxify, and are mainly used to treat carbuncles, boils, and hemorrhoids. They are often used in pills, powders, or applied externally.
Nutritional Value: A good source of lycopene, beta-carotene, vitamins, and minerals. 100 grams of gac fruit provides 17.4 grams of carbohydrates, 1.6 grams of total dietary fiber, 2.1 grams of protein, 36 milligrams of calcium, and 0.3 grams of total fat. Its high nutritional content has earned it the nickname "Fruit of Paradise."
