🛍 Product Information :
It is nicknamed “natural mineral water.” Season: mid-June to September.
Taiwan Golden Pear is a Korean-bred mid-to-late season Asian pear (Whangkeumbae) grown in Taiwan via high-grafting. It has thin, clean golden-yellow skin after ripening, snow-white tender flesh with few stone cells and a small core. Exceptionally juicy and refreshingly sweet (typically 13–16 °Brix)

Golden Pear (Whangkeumbae) originated in Korea as a cross between Niitaka and Nijisseiki pears and was named in 1984. Taiwan’s subtropical climate prevents most temperate pears from fruiting naturally at low elevations, so growers use high-grafting: scions of the Golden Pear are grafted onto hardy local rootstocks such as Hengshan pear. This technique allows production in lower-altitude areas including Yilan Sansing (often marketed as “Sansing General Pear”), Miaoli Zhuolan, Hualien Shoufeng (East Rift Valley Golden Pear), and Taichung. Domestic scion production is being developed to reduce reliance on imports.
Fruit is round to slightly flattened, typically 300–400 g (larger specimens exceed 500 g). Unbagged fruit starts yellow-green and turns translucent golden-yellow in storage; bagged fruit is even cleaner with fine, even lenticels. Skin is thin and edible. Flesh is milky-white to snow-white, fine-textured and crisp (sometimes slightly melting), with very few stone cells and a small core (edible portion often ~95%). Flavor is clean, sweet, and juicy with a light honey-floral note—hence the “natural mineral water” nickname. Sugar levels commonly reach 13–16 °Brix and can exceed 19 °Brix under good conditions.
Harvest runs from mid-June through early September depending on location and elevation (low-elevation high-grafted fruit earlier). Choose well-shaped fruit with even golden color and no sunscald or bruises. Store at room temperature for a few days or refrigerate at 0–4°C with high humidity for several weeks. Chilling enhances the refreshing quality.
Nutritionally, it is high in water, low in calories, and provides dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and polyphenol antioxidants. In traditional Chinese medicine, pears are cooling and sweet, used to moisten the lungs, generate fluids, clear heat, and relieve cough—especially useful in dry autumn weather. Those with cold-deficient spleen/stomach constitutions should eat in moderation or cooked.
Compared with newer Taiwan-bred varieties such as Formosa Nectar Pear, Golden Pear remains valued for its finer texture and distinctive clean sweetness.
