Punch can have alcohol or not, but it usually has fruit or juice. The original drink was named paanch. The word punch is probably a loanword from the Hindi पँच (pāñch), meaning "five", as the drink is usually made from five ingredients: alcohol, sugar, lime or lemon juice, water, and spices.
