Planting material - Pavement for planting project - Fermented pine bark - 60L
Specifications: see above
Origin: China
Fermented Pine Bark is a premium, all-natural organic mulch made from carefully selected pine bark that has undergone a special fermentation process. This unique treatment enhances its beneficial properties, making it an ideal multifunctional material for modern gardening and landscaping.
Rich in natural organic matter, Fermented Pine Bark effectively suppresses weed growth, retains soil moisture, regulates soil temperature, and improves soil structure over time. The fermentation process breaks down harsh tannins and resins, resulting in a more stable, pH-balanced, and plant-friendly mulch that is gentle even on sensitive roots and young seedlings.
It is widely used as organic mulch, soil amendment, decorative ground cover, and potting mix component. Suitable for flower beds, vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, container plants, and indoor greenery. Its slow decomposition also provides long-lasting nutrition and promotes beneficial microbial activity in the soil.
Eco-friendly, sustainable, and chemical-free — Fermented Pine Bark is the perfect choice for organic gardening enthusiasts and professional landscapers who seek both beauty and performance in one material.

Selection Recommendations
Fermented Pine Bark:
After fermentation, some tannins and resins are broken down, making it gentler on plants. It offers excellent water retention and aeration, making it suitable for acid-loving plants (such as blueberries, azaleas, and clematis). It has a dark, natural appearance and slowly improves soil over time, making it a versatile and high-end choice. It is more stable than regular pine bark, making it suitable for humid climates like Hong Kong.
Wood Chips/Wood Shavings vs. Pine Bark:
Wood chips decompose faster, suitable for quickly improving soil; pine bark is more durable and has a neater appearance, suitable for landscaping. Both are organic mulches, but pine bark is significantly more acidic.
Organic vs. Inorganic Mulches:
Organic: Recommended for most gardens and vegetable gardens. It improves soil, increases microorganisms, and is environmentally friendly in the long term, but requires annual or biennial replenishment.
Inorganic (Gravel, Rubber, etc.):
Suitable for low-maintenance modern landscapes or arid areas, but may lead to soil depletion or overheating in the long term. Not recommended for use around the roots of plants that need to grow.
Usage Tips (Applicable to Hong Kong/Subtropical Climates):
Recommended Thickness: 5–10 cm (approximately 2–4 inches), leaving space around the plant stems to prevent rotting.
Sloping or Rainy Areas: Choose heavier or fermented materials (such as fermented pine bark), or use weed control fabric.
Vegetable Gardens: Prioritize straw or compost for rapid nutrient provision.
Landscape Aesthetics: Fermented pine bark or sawdust is most natural.
Note: Fresh, unfermented wood materials may compete with soil nitrogen; fermented or composted products are recommended.
