Organic Farmers Association Hong Kong's first organic farmer organisation which was established in 2011 by Hong Kong agricultural veteran Mr. Wong Ling and several farmers. Due to unstable weather and freezing conditions, it takes about 40 days to cultivate seedlings. We can only accept reservations. When the seedlings mature, we will arrange a notification.
Plant characteristics
The plant is stout and dwarf, grows vigorously, is particularly resistant to mosaic disease, has particularly strong fertility, early maturity, low node position, strong fruit setting, and can start flowering and fruiting at about 50 cm above the ground. , each plant can bear 30 to 50 fruits. The fruit size is large, generally 1 to 1.5 kilograms per fruit, the largest can reach 4 kilograms, and the yield per mu is 3500 to 5000 kilograms.

There are two types of fruit shapes. The fruit of the female plant (accounting for more than 80% of the total number of plants) is oblong to oval, and the fruit of the bisexual plant (accounting for less than 20% of the total number of plants) is long rod-shaped. The peel is smooth and beautiful, the flesh is thick, the flesh is red and beautiful (the flesh color is lighter in the low temperature period), the flesh is tender, the smell is fragrant, the total sugar content is usually about 13%, the flavor is good, the juice is juicy and sweet, and the quality is excellent. Main points of cultivation technology
Use live reproduction. Seeds are collected from fully mature fruits, washed and dried in the shade. They are sown in spring (February to March) or autumn (August to October). Seedlings are raised in nutrient bags. After the seedlings are grown, they are transplanted with soil.
Dig a 15m wide platform on the hillside according to the mountain terrain, and then dig holes according to the spacing between plants of 2m. In the pastoral field, the spacing between plants is 2m×25m, and the planting holes are 50cm×50cm×30cm. After digging, return the topsoil and mix it with chemical fertilizers.
The optimum temperature for growth is 22-26°C. Sunlight does not affect flowering, and plants like sunlight and high temperatures
The first 6 months of planting are the early stage of field management, and top dressing will focus on nitrogen fertilizer. During the high temperature period, flowering and fruiting will begin around 4-5 months after planting.
After 6 months of planting, or after flowering, top dressing should focus on potassium fertilizer, preferably every 20-30 days. Foliar fertilizer can be added during this period
Papaya is a shallow-rooted plant. Please note that the soil needs to be well drained and the plants are not drought tolerant.
