Rainbow Chards | Swiss Chard - Organic / Local Small Farm / 600g

What is Swiss chard?
Also known simply as 'chard', Swiss chard has large, fleshy, tender, deep-green leaves and thick, crisp stalks. Although they're unrelated, chard is similar to spinach, but with a stronger, more assertive (or, as some think, bitter) flavour.

🛍  Product Information :

I especially like growing, eating and talking about all kinds of vegetables. I often write articles or give lectures on the prevention of diabetes, avoiding diabetes upper body, and the most important thing is to change the lifestyle. Eating more vegetables is a very important one. When talking about vegetables, I often talk about Swiss chard. A listener told me that it is called "pig dish" in the countryside, and the Wikipedia description also has a Chinese common name "Pig's Vegetables". Now times are changing, and many people call it "healthy vegetables", even the most popular healthy vegetables.

Eating more vegetables is helpful for anti-oxidation, lowering cholesterol or improving various blood fat abnormalities, and can also reduce the incidence of some cancers. Regular consumption has good effects on diabetes prevention and other health effects. Swiss chard should not lose to other vegetables. It should be a good vegetable that can reduce cancer and resist three highs. It may be better than other vegetables because it does not require pesticides. Although some programs emphasise its cancer-fighting or other "miracle" effects, I looked through professional magazines on medicine and nutrition, but I didn't search in detail, and I didn't find any academic facts. According to the data, it is proved to be better than other vegetables, at least the same or better than other vegetables of the same kind.

Different types of chard have different coloured stalks and ribs – some are white, some are golden-orange and some are red (called ruby or rhubarb chard), and there's even rainbow chard. There's very little difference in taste, but ruby chard can have a slightly stronger flavour.

How to prepare Swiss chard
The leaves and stalks should be cooked separately, or the stems cooked a few minutes longer than the leaves, as they are firmer. Wash then cut the stalks from the leaves and leave whole or chop, as required. On some older leaves, you may need to cut out the ribs too. Leaves can be left whole or chopped, as required.

How to cook Swiss chard
Leaves: boil (1-2 mins); steam (3-4 mins).
Stems: boil (3-4 mins); steam (4-5 mins); stir-fry (around 2 mins); roast (10 mins).
How to store Swiss chard
In the fridge for up to four days.

When is Swiss chard in season?
All year round, but best from July to November.

Alternatives to Swiss chard
Try spinach.
