The stripes on the leaves of the black rose arrowroot are very similar to those of the rainbow arrowroot (Calathea roseopicta (Lindl.) Regel) native to Brazil. There is a ring of stripes near the edge of the leaves, but the leaves of the black rose arrowroot are very dark green, and the stripes are beautiful rose color. Although the color is not as colorful as the rainbow arrowroot, this color combination is not inferior to others and is very eye-catching.
Compared with the leaves, the flowers of the black rose arrowroot are much more plain, but the appearance of the whole flower cluster like flowers in a basket is absolutely impressive. This is also a common feature of plants in the genus Calathea (Peacock Arrowroot, Xiao Arrowroot). The word Calathea is created from the Greek kalathos (basket), but it is also said that the shape of the bracts of the inflorescence of the plants of this genus looks like a basket. There are many plants with this feature in the tropical rainforest greenhouse, but the flowers are often hidden between the leaves when they bloom, and it takes a while to find them.
Black Rose Arrowroot is shade-tolerant and best grown in soil with good drainage. Just water it when the soil is dry. It generally grows well in bright places indoors and is suitable as an indoor ornamental plant.
