GREEN DOT DOT Organic Black Sesame Seeds are whole, unhulled organic black sesame seeds sourced from China. The brand is a familiar Hong Kong organic and health-food retailer with a wide range of certified organic grains, beans, seeds and powders.

Black sesame keeps its dark hull, which holds much of the seed’s calcium, iron, fibre and lignans (sesamin and sesamolin). The flavour is deeper and nuttier than white sesame, with a mild earthy bitterness that becomes aromatic and toasty after a quick dry roast.

Typical nutrition for whole unhulled black sesame (per 100 g, approximate): about 570–580 kcal, 17–18 g protein, ~50 g fat (mostly unsaturated), ~12 g dietary fibre, ~975 mg calcium, ~14–15 mg iron, plus magnesium, copper, zinc, phosphorus and vitamin E. A tablespoon (about 9–10 g) is a practical everyday serving.

Suggested uses: Rinse and drain, then dry-toast in a pan until fragrant. Sprinkle over rice, congee, salads or noodles; fold into granola or baking; grind into paste for black sesame soup, tangyuan filling, ice cream or mochi. Pair with soy milk, walnuts, black beans or red dates.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from heat and humidity. Refrigerate after opening and use promptly.
