🛍 Product Information (Main) (English):
Mouneyrac Guyot Pear is an early French summer pear of the cultivar Docteur Jules Guyot, selected and supplied by Mouneyrac Frères. The house was founded in Corrèze in 1928 and is now in its fourth generation. It built its name on apples and pears, keeps a stand at Paris Rungis, and also ships other seasonal fruit. “Guyot” on this label is the pear variety, not the vine-training system of the same name.
The cultivar was raised around 1870 by the Baltet nursery in Troyes and dedicated to Dr Jules Guyot, a nineteenth-century viticulturist. In Spain it is often sold as Limonera; in some English-speaking markets it appears as French Bartlett. It is a Williams-type pear that arrives a little earlier, with a shorter eating window.
Shape is classic but slightly squat: medium to large, full-bellied, with a shorter neck. Skin is smooth and thin, pale green at pick, turning yellow as it ripens, sometimes with a pink blush on the sun side and fine speckling. Flesh is white to cream, fine, melting and very juicy. Flavour is sweet with a light acid lift. Perfume is milder and less musky than Williams, so timing matters: under-ripe fruit tastes flat; overripe fruit turns mealy.
French fruit is typically on the market from mid-July to mid-September. Guyot bruises and heats easily and is not a long-keeping pear. Buy unblemished fruit, ripen at room temperature until the neck yields to gentle pressure, then refrigerate and eat within a few days. Serve out of hand, poached, in compote or tarts, or with soft or blue cheese.
Mouneyrac takes pride in sustainable farming practices and meticulous selection, offering only the finest varieties, such as Golden, Gala, and Fuji, each with its own unique balance of sweetness and acidity. Their exceptional taste makes them perfect for snacking, baking, or juicing, bringing a touch of premium quality to every bite.
🥗 Product Recipes (English):
Uses
Best eaten out of hand at peak softness. Also good poached, in compotes and tarts, or with soft or blue cheese. Because it is tender and short-lived, it is a seasonal eating pear more than a storage pear.
Storage
Ripen at room temperature, then refrigerate and use quickly. High water content, modest calories, useful fibre and potassium.
