Allergy Information

According to a study by the German Allergy and Asthma Association, many apple allergy sufferers often experience allergic reactions to newer apple varieties such as Elstar, Jonagold or Golden Delicious, such as tingling and swelling of the lips and itching in the mouth and throat. In extreme cases, shortness of breath and wheezing attacks can also occur. This symptom is particularly common in people who are allergic to birch, alder, and hazel pollen. The cause of this so-called cross-allergy is Mal d 1. The apple protein is very similar to the protein Bet v 1 in birch pollen, and the human immune system cannot distinguish between the two proteins, resulting in an allergic reaction.

🥗 Product Recipe (English)：

The Elstar is a medium-sized apple whose skin is mostly red with yellow showing. The flesh is white and has a crispy texture. It may be used for cooking and is especially good for making apple sauce. In general, however, it is used in desserts due to its sweet flavour.
