A LA CARTE

French Mirabelle plums are small, golden-yellow stone fruits closely associated with the Lorraine region of north-east France. Mirabelle de Lorraine holds EU Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) status, and France supplies the large majority of world production. The fruit is petite, thin-skinned and tender, with a honeyed sweetness when fully ripe.
Nutritionally, mirabelles are high in water (around 80%), very low in fat and typically provide about 60–80 kcal per 100 g, along with dietary fibre, potassium, beta-carotene and related carotenoids that give the golden colour, plus vitamin E and polyphenols. Fibre supports regular bowel movement; carotenoids and polyphenols help limit oxidative stress on cells and are linked with antioxidant support for skin and general cellular health.
Potassium helps maintain fluid and blood-pressure balance. Eaten in sensible amounts, mirabelles make a light, naturally sweet fruit choice. Enjoy with the skin on when fresh to retain more phytochemicals; light steaming, tarts or low-sugar stewing also work. Heavy syrup or sugary preserves raise calories and sugar and undercut the everyday “light fruit” profile.
People managing blood sugar or sensitive to sorbitol/fructose should watch portion size; those with delicate digestion may start small. This information is for nutritional reference only and is not a substitute for personalised medical or dietetic advice.
