Although our rice is not organically certified, it does not use chemical fertilizers and is grown in an environmentally friendly way. Now we have changed to grow rice in the isolated river village. Our silk seedlings yield about 150-250kg per season, depending on the seasonal weather changes.

Long Yuen Wetland

保育塱原

The Long Yuen Wetland is the largest and most complete freshwater wetland in Hong Kong. This freshwater wetland consists of more than 400 farmland connections, including wetland habitats such as broccoli fields, through vegetable fields, swamps, lotus fields, compensatory wetlands, watercress fields, fish ponds, and ditches between farm fields These were mixed with non-wetland habitats such as Arabidopsis and barren fields at the same time.

The most common areas in Long Yuen are broccoli and through cabbage fields. Farmers use the paddy farming model to grow broccoli and through cabbage, which indirectly forms the wetland environment of Long Yuen, so Long Yuen belongs to artificial wetlands. In fact, the original landform is a typical flood plain terrain, with the Sheung Yue River and the Shek Sheung River running through it. In the past, during heavy rains, river floods brought nutrients to the land beside the river channels. Because of the fertile land and abundant water, the farmers in Yuen used to grow mainly rice, and only switched to vegetables in the 1970s. After the river remediation project, the flooding of rivers has been greatly reduced, making the wetland habitat of Yuyuan more need to rely on irrigated farming and irrigation to maintain.

However, as local agriculture shrinks and more and more farmland is abandoned, there will be significant damage to the wetland ecological environment of Long Yuen.

Our ecological rice is 100% locally produced and grown in an ecologically friendly manner, refusing to use any chemical fertilizers or chemical pesticides. Our land not only advocates the principle of ecologically fair use, but also practices it: during the planting of head rice, amphibians still breed in wetlands; as for tail rice, part of the harvest is reserved for the critically endangered yellow-breasted hawk (禾花) birds) as resupply food on the way to migration.
