Indonesian French beans are highly versatile:
• Indonesian classics: Sambal goreng buncis (stir-fried with chilli, shallot, garlic, tomato and coconut milk), tumis buncis, or added to gado-gado and other vegetable dishes.
• Everyday cooking: Stir-fried with garlic and fermented black beans or oyster sauce (common in Chinese-style preparation in Hong Kong), blanched for salads, added to soups, or lightly steamed as a side.
• Tips: Trim ends, cut into 3–5 cm lengths if desired. Cook briefly to retain crunch and bright colour. Pairs well with garlic, chilli, shallot, shrimp paste, coconut milk, or simple soy-based seasonings.
