The name Tarocco is thought to have come from the exclamation of the discoverer when he showed the fruit to farmers. It is a medium-sized fruit that is probably the sweetest and tastiest of the three. It is Italy's most popular edible orange and is thought to be derived from a mutation of the "Sanguinello". It is called "Mestizo" because the red pigment of the pulp is not as prominent as in the "Moro" and "Sanguinello" varieties. It has thin orange skin with a slight red tinge. Tarocco is one of the most popular oranges in the world due to its sweetness (sugar to acid ratio is generally above 12.0) and juiciness. It has the highest vitamin C content of any orange variety in the world, mainly because of the fertile soil surrounding Mount Etna and its easy peeling. "Tarocco" oranges are seedless.
