Product Description：Body shape: The body is long spindle-shaped, with flat sides; the head is slightly pointed, and the head and back are arc-shaped. Head: The head is medium in size. The dorsal and ventral surfaces are slightly concave, and the sides are flat. The snout is blunt pointed. The eyes are medium large. The mouth is medium large and slightly sloping. Body surface: The body is covered with thin comb scales. Eye septum, snout and under-eye are bare and without scales. Lateral line complete. Fins: Dorsal fins continuous and not deep, pectoral fins long, the end reaching the origin of anal fins; pelvic fins long, reaching the origin of anal fins. Forked caudal fin. Body Color: Dark red throughout, lighter belly, with five to six distinct yellow longitudinal bands on both sides of the body. The upper edges of the dorsal and caudal fins are yellow, there is a yellow longitudinal band in the middle and lower part of the dorsal fin, and there are two yellow longitudinal bands in the middle of the anal fin. The general length is 23 cm, the maximum length is 35 cm.

身が柔らかく崩れ易いため、煮付け料理には向かず、蒸し魚や塩焼きにする場合が多い。身が柔らかいため、病人用の食事として供される場合もある。なお、鮮度が高ければ、刺身にして食べる例も見られる。
