Originating from Iraq, the name "Barhi" derives from the Arabic word for "hot wind," reflecting how the variety thrives and ripens in intense heat.


What makes Barhee dates unique is their exceptional edibility across all ripeness stages, but "tree-ripened fresh" typically refers to dates harvested at the semi-ripe khalal stage (or allowed to ripen fully on the tree/vine), appearing bright golden-yellow with a smooth, firm skin and a crisp, apple-like crunch. They offer a refreshing, mildly astringent sweetness with notes of sugarcane, coconut, honey, and subtle cinnamon—extremely juicy and refreshing when fresh.


As they continue to ripen off the tree (post-harvest), the color deepens to amber/dark brown, the texture softens into a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth consistency, and the flavor intensifies into rich butterscotch, caramel, and intense natural sweetness—often described as the sweetest and creamiest date variety available.
