A LA CARTE

Lovita® is the first variety released by French Fruit Lovers, a Moissac-based variety manager founded by nurserymen-growers Sébastien Rispe and Benoît Escande with marketer Sébastien Guy. It is a licensed club plum, not an old regional landrace, and is packed under the heart-marked Lovita brand, including six-fruit trays.
The outline is the main visual cue: a heart shape with a small comma-like tip. Skin starts as a red wash over green and becomes intense red as the season advances. Flesh is red through the fruit, firm and juicy rather than soft. Flavour is sweet first, with the skin supplying a light acid edge, so the balance suits eating out of hand as a dessert plum. Stated size is nectarine-like, around 50–60 mm, and cropping is described as heavy, with a high share of large fruit.
Picking in southwest France is mid-September. Commercial availability runs from September to the end of November, and the variety is said to keep its eating quality through storage until the end of December. It is distributed in much of Europe, including some organic channels.
Use it fresh, chilled or at room temperature. The red flesh also works in tarts, clafoutis, compote and cheese plates. Handle gently: the fruit is firm, but the skin can mark. Refrigerate ripe fruit and bring it back toward room temperature before serving if you want the full aroma.
