Product Description:Plantain (scientific name: Plantago asiatica) is a species of the genus Plantain in the family Plantainaceae. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, also known as 蕮(pronounced as "Xi"), 薖(pronounced as "Da"), and field shrub. Grass is called Fengtuo in the Book of Songs, and it is called Fengwu in other poems. Plantago is its mature seed. It blooms from July to August.


Medicinal use

Plantain has diuretic, antitussive, expel phlegm, antidiarrheal and improves eyesight functions. The medicinal value of plantain has been discovered in ancient times, such as "Shen Nong's Materia Medica", "Famous Doctors", "Southern Yunnan Materia Medica" and "Compendium of Materia Medica" and other famous Chinese medicine books have detailed records on it. Traditional Chinese medicine often uses plantain and the dried and mature seeds of related plants as medicine. Harvesting can be carried out throughout the year, and the peak period is generally from June to September.

The mature seeds of plantain are called "Kazenko", and the whole plant during the flowering period is called "Kishazenko". It is an herbal medicine recorded in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. Additionally, the dried leaves are called plantain leaves (しゃぜんよう) "shazenyo". As ingredients, the stems and leaves at the flowering stage contain the glycosides aucvin and ursolic acid, and the seeds contain succinic acid, adenine, choline and fatty acids.

オオバコの成熟種子を車前子(しゃぜんし)、花期の全草を天日で乾燥したものを車前草といい、日本薬局方に収録された生薬である。

種子、全草とも煎じて用いられ、服用すると咳止め、たんきり、下痢止め、消炎、むくみの利尿に効用があるとされる。また、葉も種子も熱を冷ます効用がある。漢方では、車前子は牛車腎気丸(ごしゃじんきがん)、竜胆瀉肝湯(りゅうたんしゃかんとう)などの漢方薬に配合される。車前葉は漢方薬として慢性気管支炎や高血圧症に使われる。

民間療法では、膿が出るような腫れ物には、葉を火であぶってよく揉んでから、患部に貼り付けると治るといわれる[16]。また、夏場に全草を採取して天日干しし、煎じて茶代わりに飲むと、消炎、利尿、下痢止め、胃腸病によいと言われている。

The leaves and seeds are anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antitussive, cardiotonic, diuretic, expectorant, and hemostatic. The roots can be taken into soup to treat coughs.

Scientific research shows that plantain petroleum extract has significant antidepressant effects, and plantain and hot water extracts of plantain have anti-leukemia, anti-cancer and anti-viral activity.

Pregnant women need to avoid using this drug as it may cause uterine activity and diarrhea. Patients should not take lithium or Tegretol (an anticonvulsant drug for epilepsy and neuropathic pain) with plantain at the same time.

Culinary use

The plant is suitable for cooking with grains and stews, and it can also be added to herbal wines.

The leaves of the plant are used in many Japanese dishes, especially soups. In Vietnam, the young leaves are boiled, fried, or made into soup with meat or prawns. It also can be fried with salt, or boiled with Yin Chen (Artemisia capillaris herba) to make Yin Chen Tea.

☘️ Preserve vegetables

1. Leafy vegetables and softer vegetables, if packaged, should be placed in the cold box in the original package;
2. Organic Vegetables are more prone to spoilage if they have water droplets. Put the vegetables in a ventilated place to dry or wipe off the water vapor, then wrap the vegetables in slightly damp newspaper and put them in a plastic bag before refrigerating. ;
3. Organic vegetables do not use preservatives or special treatments. Vegetables are generally stored for three to five days. Some vegetables will decompose enzymes, so they should be eaten as soon as possible.

☘️ How to wash vegetables

Special attention: The dishes, especially small flowers and broccoli, are best soaked in the water to remove residual pesticides (this is organic farm, but will have, but not chemical, except to Re-generative Farm). It is recommended to use our vegetables and vegetables environmentally friendly cleaner Dish Drops for 3 to 5 minutes to eliminate residuals, sand and dust.

1. Wash vegetables before cooking to keep them fresh;
2. It is not advisable to soak the vegetables for too long, and they should be washed first and then cut to avoid the loss of vitamins;
3. Washing vegetables with dilute salt water or Dish Drop can easily remove vegetable insects;
4. Cut vegetables with a stainless steel knife to reduce vitamin loss;
5. Vegetable leaves contain a lot of nutrients, so you should avoid shredding, chopping or grinding the leaves;
6. Immediately after cutting, to avoid the loss of vitamins due to air oxidation.
