Propamocarb is a systemic fungicide used for control of soil, root and leaf disease caused by oomycetes. It is used by watering or spraying. Propamocarb is absorbed and distributed through the plant's tissue.
Propamocarb (often used as propamocarb hydrochloride) is a systemic carbamate fungicide specifically active against oomycetes, such as Pythium and Phytophthora species, controlling damping-off, root rot, crown rot, and downy mildew in vegetables, ornamentals, turf, and other crops. It is applied via soil drench, incorporation, or foliar spray, with rapid uptake and acropetal translocation in plants. The mode of action involves disruption of fungal cell membrane integrity by inhibiting phospholipid and fatty acid biosynthesis, leading to mycelial growth inhibition and spore germination failure. It offers both protective and curative activity with low risk of resistance due to multi-site action. Unlike typical N-methyl carbamates, it does not inhibit acetylcholinesterase, resulting in low mammalian toxicity (no neurotoxicity, non-carcinogenic, non-teratogenic), rapid environmental degradation, and minimal ecological impact. Common formulations include 722 g/L SL.
Security
Propamocarb is generally low in toxicity to mammals and has little teratogenic or neurotoxicity. There is no carcinogenicity or mutagenicity at the same time. Downy mildew is not prone to drug resistance and can be fully metabolized by plants and aquatic bacteria within a few weeks, so it does not pose a major threat to the ecology. But there is a risk of skin allergies.
Tips for using pesticides
Use pesticides correctly and safely;
Keep away from children;
Avoid contact of pesticides with skin, eyes and clothing. If pesticides accidentally splash into eyes or stain clothing, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If the pain persists, seek medical attention immediately;
Avoid using the same pesticide for a long time, which may cause pests to develop resistance;
Pay attention to the time of application, and avoid spraying pesticides at noon or when the sun is strong; (Spraying pesticides in a humid and hot environment may cause crop burns)
Avoid excessive spraying of pesticides, and decide whether to use pesticides according to the field conditions; (Excessive use of pesticides may affect the field ecology or cause pests to develop resistance)
Before using pesticides, carefully read the instructions listed on the pesticides, such as dosage and concentration;
When preparing and applying pesticides, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as work clothes, rubber gloves, rubber boots, masks, goggles, etc.;
The introduction of natural enemies requires the "Insect Pest Import Authorization" issued by this Department. For details, please contact the Plant and Pesticide Supervision Division.
