Human toxicity

In 2006, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) re-evaluated the classification of amitraz to a non-quantifiable "suggestive evidence of carcinogenicity" descriptor, and in 2013 determined that risk quantification for amitraz using a non-linear approach would adequately account for all chronic toxicities, including carcinogenicity, that may result from exposure to amitraz and its metabolites. Accidental exposure to large amounts of amitraz in men has resulted in respiratory failure and death, primarily due to oral or inhaled ingestion. In 1989, 41 fatal cases of amitraz poisoning were reported in Turkey. About 50% of the patients observed toxic doses of 0.3 to 1.25 g of the 12.5% amitraz formulation and 0.5 to 2 g of the 20% formulation. The remainder of the patients received doses as high as 10 grams. Other symptoms commonly seen after large amounts of amitraz poisoning include central nervous system depression, respiratory depression, miosis, hypothermia, hyperglycemia, loss of consciousness, vomiting, and bradycardia.

Pay attention to the time of application, and avoid spraying pesticides at noon or when the sun is strong; (Spraying pesticides in a humid and hot environment may cause crop burns)
Avoid excessive spraying of pesticides, and decide whether to use pesticides according to the field conditions; (Excessive use of pesticides may affect the field ecology or cause pests to develop resistance)
Before using pesticides, carefully read the instructions listed on the pesticides, such as dosage and concentration;
When preparing and applying pesticides, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as work clothes, rubber gloves, rubber boots, masks, goggles, etc.;
The introduction of natural enemies requires the "Insect Pest Import Authorization" issued by this Department. For details, please contact the Plant and Pesticide Supervision Division.

Amiraz 20 EC is an insecticide that is effective against ectoparasites which attack animals, the product contains 20 % (w/v) Amitraz N-methyl bis (2,4 – xylyliminomethyl) Amine (IUPAC) in the form of Emulsifiable concentrate .
