The active ingredient is Bentazon (Basagran), a thiadiazine compound in soluble liquid (SL) formulation. It is absorbed primarily through foliage (and roots) and translocated upward. It inhibits photosynthesis by blocking electron transport in photosystem II, preventing CO₂ assimilation in sensitive weeds, leading to rapid growth cessation, chlorosis, necrosis, and death. It acts mainly by contact, requiring thorough spray coverage on weed leaves.

Key Uses:

Controls broadleaf weeds and sedges (e.g., arrowhead, dayflower, bulrush, nutsedge) in rice paddies, corn, peanuts, soybeans, and turf.

Suitable for established cool- and warm-season turfgrasses, ornamentals, nurseries, roadsides, and non-crop sites.

Good selectivity on grasses and rice, highly effective on susceptible dicots and sedges.

Features: Strong selectivity, fast contact action, and low soil residual activity. Apply at the 2-5 leaf weed stage under good conditions; drain water to expose weeds before spraying. Do not apply if rain is expected within 8 hours or under high temperature/drought. Always wear PPE and prevent drift to sensitive plants.

It is absorbed through the leaves and roots of weeds and translocates throughout the plant, mimicking auxin (plant growth hormone) to disrupt cell division and elongation. This interferes with normal metabolism, causing uncontrolled growth and eventual death of broadleaf weeds.

Key Uses:

Effective control of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds (e.g., chickweed, shepherd’s purse, etc.).

Suitable for non-crop areas such as wasteland, roadsides, railways, turf, and certain cereal crops (wheat, maize, rice, etc.).

Safe on grasses (monocots) but highly effective against dicotyledonous plants.

Features: Strong systemic action, fast results, easy to apply as a spray. Always follow label instructions, wear protective gear, and avoid drift to sensitive plants. Hong Kong pesticide registration number: 2P2 (SL).

Tips for using pesticides

Use pesticides correctly and safely;
Keep away from children;
Avoid pesticides from contacting skin, eyes and clothes. If they accidentally splash into eyes or get on clothes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If the pain persists, seek medical attention immediately;
Avoid using the same pesticide for a long time, which may cause pests to develop resistance;
Pay attention to the time of application, and avoid spraying pesticides at noon or when the sun is strong; (Spraying pesticides in a humid and hot environment may cause crop burns)
Avoid excessive spraying of pesticides, and decide whether to use pesticides according to the field conditions; (Excessive use of pesticides may affect the field ecology or cause pests to develop resistance)
Before using pesticides, carefully read the instructions listed on the pesticides, such as dosage and concentration;
When preparing and applying pesticides, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as work clothes, rubber gloves, rubber boots, masks, goggles, etc.;
