Black Beauty is a commercial hybrid watermelon series, prominently developed in Taiwan in the 1990s and widely adapted across southern and central China. Fruits are long-oval, with a deep blackish-green smooth rind and faint striping. Typical weight is 4–7 kg. Flesh is vivid red, fine, crisp-juicy and low-fiber, with center soluble solids often 12–14° Brix. The thin but resilient rind supports good transport and shelf life.
It is early- to mid-maturing and valued for uniform commercial quality, high consumer appeal and reliable sweetness. Main production areas include Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and other southern provinces for earlier seasons, plus central and northern regions for summer supply. Nutritionally it offers high water content, lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, making it a classic refreshing summer fruit. Choose evenly shaped, glossy dark fruit with a clear ground spot and crisp sound when tapped; store whole at cool room temperature or refrigerate after cutting.
🍎 Preserve fruits
