🛍 Product Information:

Binomial Name:Ocimum basilicum L.

Chinese Name:羅勒 | 甜羅勒

Other Names:Basil

Product Description:The basil used in pesto in Italian cuisine should be "sweet basil". If basil is used to make pesto, the taste will be astringent and the smell will be heavier. Basil (Basil) is the main ingredient for making green sauce, one of the basic sauces for pasta. Put basil leaves, roasted pine nuts (or other nuts), olive oil, and garlic into a blender and beat them into puree. Add some salt and black pepper to taste at the end to make a delicious pesto.

Origin: India, Southeast Asia Effectiveness: Stabilizing, calming, and sterilizing "Basil" is a close relative of "Peppermint", and its aliases are "Basil" and "Ten Miles". I believe that everyone should know exactly where "Basil" is Come on!

However, this kind of spice is currently divided into Asian and European varieties, and the smell is slightly different. Generally speaking, the smell of Asian varieties is stronger. When it comes to its uses, we often see it in Chinese stir-fried dishes such as "Three Cup Chicken" and "Stir-Fried Clams". Pasta, pizza and seafood salads also often use basil to add deliciousness.

Edible parts: leaves, twigs. Cooking method: Common basil is used to make green sauce or other sauces in Western cuisine. In addition, it is also a good way to mix salads, stew soups, and add cream to make fillings; and some Asian varieties of basil are also called basil. , the taste is more spicy, and it is mostly used for stir-frying as a material for sautéing or enhancing flavor. Delicious point: Basil’s unique fragrance is very suitable for removing fishy smell and improving flavor, but because fresh leaves are easy to damage and turn black, if you don’t want to damage the appearance of leaves, remember to add basil before cooking, and cook immediately after the fragrance is released , it can maintain the integrity of the appearance and is less prone to blackening.

Variety:According to the color of plant leaves and flowers, two common varieties are: (1) Sweet basil: also known as subtropical basil, it has bright green smooth large leaves and small white flowers.
(2) Purple-leaf basil: Also known as opal basil, it has purple to almost black leaves and pink flowers. Other varieties are lemon basil, fennel basil, etc.

Supply Season:The branches and leaves are lush in autumn, and they will be harvested after flowering and dried in the sun. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

Storage Method:Basil has a very short shelf life, only 2 to 3 days, and it will turn black if left for a long time, so it should be eaten as soon as possible.

Store in a dry container, tightly closed, in a cool and dry place. Leftover basil can be stored in the refrigerator or marinated in olive oil. Wrap it with wet kitchen paper towels and plastic bags and put it in the vegetable and fruit fresh room of the refrigerator. It can be stored for two to three days. If it is stored in the freezer method, it can be stored for three months.

Cooking Skills:Basil often appears in Italian cuisine and is very suitable for tomatoes, cooking, soup or sauce. Suitable food types include eggplant, beans, eggs, lemons, potatoes and tomatoes. Herbs that go well with are coriander, garlic, mint, and thyme. Eat together with various dishes, it tastes spicy and can ward off fishy smell.

If it is overcooked, the aromatic essential oil is easy to evaporate. It is best to mix it in an appropriate amount after it is boiled, and the hot soup can be eaten immediately.

Notes:Basil is known as the "King of Herbs in Summer". Basil's insect-repelling effect can be grown as an insect-repelling plant. Pick fresh leaves and soak in red wine vinegar for about a month to make basil wine vinegar.
