PDO
Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) designates a product in which all the production stages are carried out according to recognised know-how in the same geographical area, providing the product with particular characteristics. It is a European label which protects the name of the product throughout the European Union.
In China, there is also a similar official organization called China's Geographical Indications for Agricultural Products (中國農產品地理標誌) 以及中國國家地理標誌保護產品. China's Geographical Indications for Agricultural Products indicate that agricultural products come from a specific region. The product quality and related characteristics mainly depend on the natural ecological environment and historical and cultural factors and are named after the region.
China's national geographical indication protected products refer to products produced in a specific area within the territory of the People's Republic of China and with excellent quality, good reputation and unique characteristics. These products are generally protected by geographical indication by being given the name of their place of origin (geographical name), and most of them are edible products.
