Hong Kong Halal Restaurant

From delicious pork-free dim sum to authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, Hong Kong offers a plethora of halal dining options.

Hong Kong boasts over a hundred halal-certified and halal-friendly restaurants recognized by the Hong Kong Islamic Trust Foundation, offering a diverse range of cuisines including Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern dishes.

Instead of searching far and wide, browse our curated selection of favorites for Muslim diners. All restaurants are halal certified and offer unforgettable flavors.

Important Notes Before Dining: Halal-certified restaurants in Hong Kong fall into three main categories. Halal-certified restaurants ensure that their ingredients, preparation areas, and dining spaces are all halal certified. Halal kitchen restaurants offer halal food but may serve non-halal items such as alcoholic beverages in the dining area. Halal-friendly restaurants handle both halal and non-halal food in the same kitchen but ensure careful preparation to prevent contamination.

We have indicated the category of each recommended restaurant. The following also includes smaller shops that are popular with the local Muslim community for their delicious halal food but lack certification.

Islamic Centre Canteen (伊斯蘭中心餐廳)

Halal Certified Restaurant

A trip to Hong Kong isn't complete without trying dim sum. For those seeking pork-free dim sum, the Islamic Centre Restaurant is a popular choice. You'll see stacks of bamboo baskets on the counter, containing rice noodle rolls, lotus leaf-wrapped sticky rice chicken, and my favorite shrimp dumplings.

DimSum

This canteen serves dim sum until 3 PM, and it's often difficult to get a table, so remember to arrive early to avoid the lunch rush. Since the building has a prayer room, please dress modestly and conservatively.

Roast meats are another authentic Hong Kong delicacy. The family-run Wai Kee Halal Restaurant has over 70 years of history, and its signature dish is crispy-skinned, tender, and juicy halal roast duck.

Located in the Goose Neck Cooked Food Centre on Bowrington Road, Wan Chai, this restaurant boasts a lively yet rustic atmosphere. During peak hours, you might have to share a table with other diners, but the delicious food makes it a great place to experience Hong Kong's dai pai dong (open-air food stall) culture. The curry lamb is a must-try; the meat is incredibly tender, falling off the bone with a single bite. Be sure to ask the waiter for extra fried potatoes – you won't be able to stop eating them!

Kampoeng perfectly combines simple decor with heartwarming dishes, embodying the essence of Indonesian street food culture. Popular dishes include the peanut sauce mixed salad "Gado Gado" and the rich and flavorful Padang beef stewed with a variety of spices, lemongrass, garlic, and ginger. The satay skewers have a slightly charred aroma and come with two dipping sauces, perfect for sharing. A refreshing and thirst-quenching iced drink made with rambutan, a tropical fruit native to Indonesia, is a must.
