Due to the intense human demand for fish and seafood, many fishing companies have continued to expand the fishing scope of their industrial fleets in order to cope with the rapid development of the market. The fleets have gone out to sea to fish more frequently and more accurately, and many have also used trawl fishing, causing excessive fishing. Fishing and by-catch problems affect marine ecology and destroy the livelihoods of small-scale fishermen.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, Hong Kong has the second highest per capita seafood consumption in Asia and the eighth highest seafood consumption in the world. In addition to the industrial and commercial fisheries that need to take responsibility for protecting the environment, we as consumers have the right and responsibility to understand the source of products and choose more environmentally friendly products; after all, when everyone makes a more environmentally friendly choice, they are directly or indirectly protecting our environment and oceans.

Modern industrial fishing directly harms global biodiversity
As the Arctic sea ice continues to melt, the threat from industrial fishing is increasing day by day. Destructive fishing methods such as "trawling" have a serious impact on the Arctic marine ecology.
The Taiwanese fishing boat "Shun Deqing No. 888" fished illegally, prompting the European Union to issue a yellow card warning to Taiwan's distant water fisheries.
As the saying goes: "There is no point in giving up the entire forest for a tree", and we are also "There is no point in killing the entire ocean for a fish." In order to have fish every year, I hope you will "know and choose" together.
Bottom trawls plunder large amounts of fish every time they are launched. Have you ever thought that the delicious seafood on your table may come from bottom trawling nets that harm marine ecology?
You can help conserve marine resources by simply choosing seafood on the green or yellow lists and avoiding the red category.

Millions of tons of marine life are swallowed up by bottom trawl nets every year. The seabed it passes through is completely depleted of life and cannot be restored to its original state. Therefore, local governments must ban bottom trawling as soon as possible, otherwise the marine ecology will be in danger.

The guidelines are designed to create a new dietary trend and make protecting the ocean a consumer's responsibility. The guidelines cover more than 70 seafood species and are divided into three categories: "Green - First Choice", "Yellow - Second Choice" and "Red - Avoid" so that consumers can make the right choices. Marine scientists strictly evaluate the seafood species in the guidelines, whether they are wild-caught or farmed, based on the criteria jointly developed by the Association and other non-governmental organizations.

建議 RECOMMENDED 這些海鮮來自管理完善的漁業。其捕撈或養殖的方法對環境影響較小,是消費者首選。 Seafood comes from wellmanaged fisheries whereseafood is caught or farmedin an ecologically-friendlyway - the preferred choicefor consumption. ![]() |
