Sugarloaf Pineapple stands out among pineapple varieties due to its unique white flesh, significantly lower acidity, and higher natural sugar content. The fruit typically weighs 1.8–2.7 kg (up to 2.3–2.7 kg or more), with a cylindrical to slightly tapered shape, tough waxy rind that often remains green when ripe (with golden-orange eyes), and a large crown of spiny dark green leaves.
The creamy white flesh is juicy, soft, tender, and non-stringy, with a fully edible core that lacks the woody fibrous texture common in commercial varieties like MD2 or Smooth Cayenne. This makes it exceptionally easy and enjoyable to eat whole. Flavor notes include intense sweetness with floral, vanilla, coconut, and honey undertones, often described as reminiscent of cotton candy or the sweetest tropical dessert.
