The origin of this pear is in Moldova, where the Oksana Xenia was introduced in 1968 which was a cross between the Triomphe de Vienne and the Krier varieties. Xenia is a sweet juicy pear which can be eaten either hard or soft.Xenia is a green pear that turns yellow as it ripens and is known to have quite a long shelf life compared to other varieties.
The Xenia Pear from France is a premium European pear variety originating from a cross between ‘Triomphe de Vienne’ and ‘Nicolai Krier’ in Moldova. Organically grown in France, it features a distinctive round, plump, almost spherical shape with thin, smooth skin. Harvested green, the fruit develops a beautiful yellow-green hue with light bronzing as it ripens. The edible skin is tender and does not detract from the eating experience.
The flesh is creamy white, fine-grained, juicy, and remarkably crisp with very few or no grit cells. It delivers a high sugar content (12–14 °Brix) and a fresh, sweet, mildly aromatic flavor with subtle woody notes. One of its standout qualities is versatility — it can be enjoyed crunchy like an apple while still firm and green, or allowed to soften slightly for a sweeter, more melting texture. Xenia is also known for its excellent storability and long shelf life, remaining fresh for weeks in the refrigerator.
