🛍 Product Information :
The Amalfi Coast Lemon, known in Italian as Limone Costa d'Amalfi or Sfusato Amalfitano, is a prestigious lemon variety cultivated on the dramatic terraced cliffs of Italy’s Amalfi Coast in Campania. Renowned for its large size, distinctive elongated spindle shape (sfusato means “spindle”), thick and highly aromatic rind, and juicy, mildly acidic flesh, it stands out from ordinary lemons due to its sweeter taste, lower acidity, and intense floral-citrus fragrance.
Amalfi lemons are known for their thick skin and large size, making them an impressive lemon variety. Their rough skin immediately distinguishes them from ordinary lemons.
Also known as Sfusato Amalfitano in Italy, Amalfi lemons grow on the Amalfi Coast. Their thick skin is used in desserts, limoncello, and any food requiring a lemony flavor.
These large lemons have a special outer skin, which contributes to their high lemon content. Therefore, Amalfi lemons are very juicy, but also have an acidic flesh with a satisfyingly tart flavor. If you have a sweet tooth and enjoy eating them peel-and-skin like an apple, try eating Amalfi lemons—skin and all—in chunks! They're delicious!
This lemon has been grown for over a thousand years, with roots tracing back to Arab trade influences and later hybridization with local bitter oranges. It holds Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, ensuring authenticity. The fruit is exceptionally rich in vitamin C and essential oils, making it ideal for limoncello liqueur, desserts, pasta dishes, and even eating fresh (including the peel). The lemon groves not only produce this “yellow gold” but also help stabilize the steep slopes against erosion, forming an integral part of the Amalfi Coast’s UNESCO World Heritage.
🥘 Recipe:
Amalfi lemons are large and elongated, with individual lemons often weighing over 100–200 grams. They have thick, rough, bright yellow peels rich in essential oils, producing a strong and lasting aroma. Compared to regular lemons, they are lower in acidity and higher in sweetness, with a delicate and mellow flavor, exhibiting distinct floral and herbal notes. The thick, mild-tasting white albedo layer inside the peel is ideal for making candied lemon peel or extracting lemon zest.
In the culinary culture of the Amalfi region, the Amalfi lemon is an indispensable ingredient, used in classic limoncello, lemonades, seafood dishes, desserts, and often eaten raw in slices. Its exceptional aroma and balanced flavor make it a highly regarded premium lemon variety among chefs and gourmets worldwide.
