🛍 Product Information (Main) (English):

Binomial Name:Actinidia deliciosa 'Hayward'

Chinese Name:Hayward 奇異果

Other Names:Hayward Kiwi

Product Description:The flesh is an attractive green color with a white center.

Origin: Hayward originated in New Zealand. The variety "Hayward" was developed by Hayward Wright in Avondale, New Zealand around 1924.

The larger A. deliciosa (fuzzy kiwifruit) at the rear compared to the smaller kiwi berry

Where grown: Hayward kiwifruit is widely grown in subtropical and Mediterranean regions. It is sold in UK stores in New Zealand (Zespri), Chile, Italy or Greece, with the occasional item from France and Spain.

BEFORE THE CHINESE GOOSEBERRY
As the name suggests, kiwifruit has its roots in China. Its original name in Chinese, mihoutao — or “macaque fruit” — was a reference to monkeys loving the sweet fruit. From there stemmed several other colloquial names for the Chinese gooseberry: monkey peach, macaque pear, vine pear, sun peach and wood berry.

(In true cyclical fashion, the name strange fruit has recently become fairly common in Taiwan and Hong Kong. This is an apparent transliteration of the word kiwifruit — qi yi guo in Mandarin, or kei yi gwo in Cantonese.)

The fruit of the kiwifruit family. Sweet and sour, cold in nature. It has the effects of quenching thirst, relieving irritability, showering stones under the lower body, and regulating the middle and lower qi. According to modern medical reports, the juice of kiwi fruit can prevent the formation of carcinogenic substances such as nitrosamines in the human body, so kiwi fruit has anti-cancer effect. Kiwi is a low-sodium and high-potassium fruit. Kiwi also provides potassium needed for fluids and electrolysis in the body. Kiwi has great benefits for the heart and blood pressure. Because it is shaped like a peach and kiwis like to eat, it is named kiwi fruit; it is also said that the fruit belt of kiwi fruit is covered with hairs, which looks like a kiwi named after it.

Originating in China, it has a long history of cultivation. Changchu recorded in the ancient book "Book of Songs" is this thing. Now it is widely planted in the provinces along the Yangtze River, and has been introduced to the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, France, Japan and other places in the past 100 years. At present, the most successful countries for introduction are New Zealand, Japan and so on.

Variety:Hayward kiwifruit belongs to several varieties of A. deliciosa (fuzzy kiwifruit): "Hayward", "Blake" and "Saanichton 12".

There are many varieties of kiwifruit, among which Chinese kiwifruit (Acitinidia chinensis) and delicious kiwifruit (Acitinidia deliciosa) are the main varieties.

There are three main varieties of Chinese kiwifruit, namely:
1. Soft-haired kiwi (A. chinensis var. chinensis),
2. Hispida (A. chinensis var. hispida) and
3. A. chinensis var. setosa. This variety is abundant in Taiwan, where it is called red vine pear or golden peach.
Famous varieties of delicious kiwifruit include Hayward, bred in New Zealand, and Gold kiwifruit and Hinabelle.

Supply Season:Available in Hong Kong all year round, the most suitable period is from May to August.

Storage Method:Unripe fruits can be put together with apples to accelerate ripening; or placed at room temperature for about 5 days to ripen naturally. Fruits that are not to be eaten for the time being are best wrapped and stored in the refrigerator, but the storage time should not be too long.

Can kiwifruit be refrigerated?
Yes, you can refrigerate kiwifruit. Ripe green kiwifruit will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and gold kiwifruit will last up to 7 days in the refrigerator. Putting in the refrigerator will help slow down the ripening process, which will help prolong the shelf life of kiwifruit.

We always recommend that you ripen kiwifruit at room temperature. Ripe kiwis will stay delicious for days in your fruit bowl. But if you can't eat an entire bag of kiwifruit in one sitting, you can keep kiwifruit fresh for up to a week by refrigerating.

If you need to ripen kiwifruit quickly, you can store it in a paper bag with other fruit, such as bananas or apples, at room temperature. These fruits release ethylene, which helps speed up the ripening process.

Yes, you can freeze kiwis too!
You can extend the shelf life of ripe kiwifruit by storing them in the refrigerator to use later in refreshing recipes like smoothies and sorbets. Remember to freeze kiwis in half or peeled, otherwise the whole kiwi may split.

#Should Be / Avoided:
Appropriate: It is suitable for people with dysphoria, diabetes, indigestion, high blood pressure, constipation, and people with jaundice, stone stranguria, and hemorrhoids.

Pregnant women can eat kiwi fruit

Properties (TCM): cool
Five Flavors in TCM: Sweet, Sour
Efficacy Clearing heat and promoting body fluid, harmonizing stomach and eliminating food, invigorating spleen and stomach, diuretic

In terms of attributes, green kiwifruit is "sour and cool", suitable for pregnant women with hot and dry constitutions, and can improve indigestion, loss of appetite and other symptoms; yellow kiwifruit is "sweet and warm", suitable for cold, deficiency and general constitutions pregnant woman. Kiwifruit is rich in many nutrients, such as folic acid and vitamin C, which are very important nutrients for pregnant women. In addition, it can also strengthen the immune system, promote digestion, and balance estrogen, which is a great boon for pregnant women. But remember not to overeat. Avoid it if you have atopic allergies, gastritis, or other digestive issues.

Pay attention when eating:
Pregnant women should eat kiwi fruit before meals or 1-3 hours after meals, not on an empty stomach.

*Edible Compatibility:
Affordable: 1. Kiwi and pine nuts: The vitamin C in kiwi can help absorb iron from pine nuts, make the face rosy, enhance physical strength, and help prevent anemia. 2. Kiwi fruit and mayonnaise: The vitamin C in kiwi fruit and the vitamin E in mayonnaise are eaten together, which can strengthen the effect of vitamin E, effectively protect cell membranes from damage, and bring anti-aging and anti-cancer effects. Compatibility: 1. Kiwi fruit and honey: Eat kiwi fruit rich in dietary fiber and vitamin C with honey with laxative effect, which is easy to cause diarrhea. 2. Kiwi fruit and dairy products: The vitamin C content in kiwi fruit is quite high, and it is easy to coagulate with the protein in dairy products, affecting digestion and absorption. Kiwi fruit contains an enzyme actinidin that softens proteins. Therefore, when eating kiwi fruit, do not drink dairy products or milk at the same time, otherwise it will lead to indigestion, bloating, diarrhea, etc. However, it is precisely because the enzymes of kiwi fruit can soften protein, it can be used to marinate fresh meat and make the meat soft.

Cooking Skills:Common varieties are about the size of an egg (about 6 cm high and about 4.5 To 5.5 Cm in circumference) and are generally oval in shape. The peel is dark brown with short hairs and is generally not edible. The flesh is bright green with a row of black seeds. It can be eaten raw, and can be made into fruit juice, jam, dried fruit, preserved fruit, as well as processed and brewed fruit wine or canned for storage.

Notes:Because kiwifruit is cold in nature, it is easy to cause diarrhea, so it is not advisable to eat more.
Some people will have allergies after eating kiwi fruit, so they should not eat it.
Kiwi fruit originated from China, and its real name is "gooseberry" or "kiwi fruit". In 1904, a New Zealand headmistress named Isabel visited her sister in Yichang, Hubei, China, and brought Chinese kiwi seeds back to New Zealand. After returning to New Zealand, Isabel transferred the seeds to local fruit tree experts, and then to Alexander, a well-known local horticultural expert, to cultivate the first kiwifruit tree in New Zealand.
