Strawberries in Hong Kong

Japanese strawberries are mainly exported to Hong Kong from winter to spring.

Japanese and Korean strawberries are not in direct competition. The reason is that consumers perceive Japanese strawberries to be better in taste and juiciness, and are willing to pay a higher price (at the top end is Amaou, the most common Japanese variety in Hong Kong, which sells for about $130 per pack).

Korean strawberries are about half the price of Japanese strawberries, but are often inferior to Japanese strawberries in terms of taste and juiciness.

A new variety called Kingsberry, which began importing from South Korea a few years ago, is almost in the same quality and price range as Japanese strawberries. Currently, Kingsberry is in limited supply, but it is likely to be a rising star in the Hong Kong market.

Some organic farms and sightseeing farms in Hong Kong will produce strawberries. Compared with foreign products, the advantage is that they do not add preservatives.
