🌱 Producer Introduction:

Kam Je has worked in the fields of Hesou for several years, and she has always been known for her hard work. The land she rented is full of different crops everywhere. Kam Je is straightforward and friendly, and asked Kam Je how to take care of the whole Katada, she said, "I have to do it alone. Friends will come to help during holidays. Sometimes I even work from 7:00 am to 3:00 am the next day, take a taxi home, and continue working at 7:00 am." We were amazed that she was all All year round, she added elves: "It doesn't matter, I sometimes have relatives come, and I will take them outside to play."

The cabbages on the field are green and plump, bigger than a human head, and they are the fruits of her hard work. Kam Je can harvest about 1,000 catties of broccoli every year. According to the retail price of organic vegetables, the price is about 30 yuan per catty. If you sell all the broccoli, you can earn 30,000 yuan. Who says farmers work hard and can't make ends meet?

Kam Je smiled wryly: "Other organic farmers also have a bumper harvest of broccoli every year, and the supply exceeds demand. Even if they sell it to the vegetable management department at a low price, they will not accept it." Then what to do with this thousand-jin broccoli? "Eat it yourself! Or don't you give it away?" Give them to friends. If not, compost them.”

Although Kam Je said "it doesn't matter" in everything, everyone knows that farmers are always happiest when they see other people's happy expressions after tasting the crops they planted. Now that the hard-earned cabbage can only be returned to the soil, how can the farmer not feel sad? I hope that everyone can actively support local small farmers and local agriculture in Hong Kong. 🛍 Product Information (Main) (English):

Winter melon (scientific name: Benincasa pruriens), belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family of the Cucurbitales order and is the only species of the genus Winter melon. It is an annual vine herb. Winter melon is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia, and later spread to southern China and other Asian regions. It is now widely cultivated in East Asia and South Asia.

Its fruit is eaten as a vegetable. The surface of the unripe winter melon fruit is hairy, so it is called hairy melon. When the fruit matures, the skin becomes waxy, which is conducive to long-term storage.

In addition to the fruit, the young shoots, tendrils and leaves of winter melon can be eaten as leafy vegetables.

Winter melon can generally be stored for twelve months. The fruit can be eaten raw, fried or made into soup.

Supply period: Available in Hong Kong from June to September every year.

Supply Period: Hong Kong Is Supplied Throughout The Year.

Winter Melon Soup
Recommended eating methods:

The fruit can be made into candied winter melon, which is made by peeling the fruit, cutting it into strips, blanching it, pressing out the water, and then pickling it with white sugar and drying it to make candied fruit. In addition to being eaten directly as candy, it is also used to sweeten Chinese medicine, Cantonese-style soup, and is also the raw material for mooncakes and pineapple cakes.

Taiwan has winter melon tea, which is made by peeling the fruit, cutting it into strips, and then adding sugar, water, and brown sugar to boil the soup for several hours.

Winter melon soup

Winter melon seeds (also known as white melon seeds, winter melon kernels, melon seeds, melon slices, melon rhinoceros) are the seeds of winter melon, which can be used as medicine. They have the effect of clearing the lungs and reducing phlegm, and have an immune-boosting effect, but they are slightly cold in nature, so they are forbidden for people with spleen and stomach deficiency.

According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, winter melon can treat thirst, edema, asthma, hemorrhoids, heat toxins, and prickly heat.

Winter melon is sweet and mild, and has the effect of clearing away heat and promoting diuresis, making it suitable for summer consumption. In Hong Kong, the melon sac is often dug out, and the melon flesh and skin are kept as a container. Ingredients such as night-scented lilies are added and stewed into a summer seasonal dish in Cantonese cuisine, winter melon soup.

In addition, there is a variant of winter melon, called the winter melon, also known as the hairy melon, which looks similar to an immature winter melon.
