【Tottori Pear 🍐 Oushuunashi (Japanese King Pear)】 When talking about Tottori Prefecture, one cannot ignore pears; and when talking about pears, one cannot ignore Tottori Prefecture. Oushuunashi, a new late-maturing pear variety from Tottori Prefecture, is sweeter and juicier due to its longer growing period. It has a pale yellow-green skin, tender and delicate white flesh, and a crisp texture, releasing refreshing, sweet juice with every bite. The secret to its delicious flavor lies in the dedicated cultivation and management by pear experts. Although Tottori Prefecture has a small population, it produces more than half of Japan's total pear production. Every Oushuunashi pear exported undergoes light wave testing for sweetness and quality. Tottori's mild, foggy climate, known as "San'in," provides ideal soil and climate conditions for pear tree growth.
Oushuunashi is a red pear variety approved in 2000. Its name is pronounced "Oushuunashi." The breeding source is "C2," a hybrid of Chinese pears and the Tottori Prefecture specialty "20th Century Pear." Wangqiu pear is a rare variety with a very limited yield, due to its limited availability and the significant effort required for cultivation. Its appearance and taste are among the best of all pears, and it has a long shelf life, making it a popular gift. Therefore, Wangqiu pear is a well-rounded variety, combining the advantages of various pear types. Its sugar content is around 14%, while ordinary pears contain around 12%, resulting in a very strong sweetness. Even if you don't like sweet pears, Wangqiu pear has a strong acidity, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing and delicate sweetness.
Few varieties offer such a rich balance of sweetness, acidity, texture, and juice, so if you haven't tried it before, take this opportunity to give it a try.
*The Benefits of Pears* Traditional Chinese medicine believes that pears are "sweet and slightly sour, cool in nature, and enter the lung and stomach meridians." They have the effects of promoting body fluid production, moisturizing dryness, clearing heat, resolving phlegm, and relieving hangovers. They can also be used to treat symptoms such as dry cough, thirst, cough with asthma, and yellow phlegm caused by internal heat. Especially for people who are prone to dry mouth and throat, quickly peel a slice of pear and take a bite. Eating a raw pear can quench your thirst and promote salivation.
