Lily is one of the traditional Chinese medicines often used by southerners. It has high nutritional value and is suitable for cooking soup and stir-frying. It is healthy and delicious.
Lily is divided into two types: dried lily and fresh lily. Generally, dried lily is sold in traditional Chinese medicine stores, which can be used to make soup; fresh lily is mostly used with red dates, lotus seeds and other ingredients to make a sweet soup, or directly stir-fried in vegetables .
fresh lilies
POINT 1 Pick Whole Lilies
Lilies are bulbous crops. Lilies sold as a whole are relatively fresh, and the scales are well covered, and there is still sandy soil when peeled off; if the lilies have been peeled off, the freshness is a little bit poor, so you should use them as soon as possible after you buy them back.
Once fresh lilies come into contact with water, they will soon start to rot. Usually, the store will wrap the lily with sawdust to prevent moisture and rot; it is recommended to choose a lily with a little soil and sawdust on the outside.
Fresh lilies usually have dirt on their bottoms.
POINT 2 light yellow in color
A lily that is too white may be bleached, and a lily that is too yellow may be close to rot; it is better to choose a lily that is light yellow in color and smells lightly floral.
How to store PLUS fresh lilies?
Wrap the lily with a clean paper towel, put it in a fresh-keeping box and put it in the refrigerator to avoid collision.
🥘 Recipe:
Stir-fried lily with fresh celery, porridge with lily and lotus seeds, and stir-fried beef with fresh lily.
Stir-fried asparagus with fresh lily,
Lily porridge is also delicious
Lily Boiled Dessert, White Fungus and Lotus Seeds with Lily, or
Add a little rock sugar and lily to cook together.
🔅Notes:
Remove the stalks before cooking, peel them into petals and put them in clean water to wash off the soil thoroughly, soak them for a while and drain them for use. Fresh lily is a good stir-fried seasonal vegetable. It is suitable for cooking lily fried pork slices, lily fried celery and chicken, etc. It can also be used in soup. However, fresh lily is easy to dissolve after cooking for a long time, so cook it 15-20 minutes before the soup is ready. Just add the fresh lily to the soup pot, and you can taste the fresh lily meat.

preservation method:
If the lily root has not been taken yet, please place it in wood chips and refrigerate it at 5-7°C. It can be stored for about 6 months, but the freshness is best in the first month. If you want to prevent the buds from growing, you can put the lily roots on the shelf, which can inhibit the buds from continuing to grow. The washed lily roots must be refrigerated and eaten within a week to avoid drying out the scales. (If the buds have grown, just cut them off and they will not grow again)

Tim Kee was established in 1946. Mr. CHIU Kam Tim, our founder, started his wholesale vegetable business in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong. The business has gradually extended to three subsidiaries throughout these 73 years.
Father of Mr. CHIU Kam Tim was a landlord who established a Stone Factory in Guangdong. He experienced the struggle session during the Cultural Revolution and thus Mr. CHIU Kam Tim alone escaped to Hong Kong. In the early stage, he partnered with others to start a business but unfortunately he was cheated out of all his savings. In 1956, Mr. CHIU Kam Tim established Tim Kee, a wholesale vegetable store, in Kennedy Town, and worked diligently to make a living.
The successor of Tim Kee was Mr. Rambo CHIU Kwok Wai, son of Mr. CHIU Kam Tim. The sudden passing of Mr. CHIU Kam Tim drove him to pick up the business. He was seventeen at that time. With the teachings of seniors, his diligence and immense efforts, he transformed from knowing nothing to a businessman that everyone knew in the field. He was appointed as Deputy Merchandising Officer and Director of Overseas Fruits and Vegetable Merchants Association respectively.
The business was succeeded by the family of Mr. CHIU Kwok Wai, further carrying forward the painstaking family business with unremitting efforts.
Despite of the intense competition, Tim Kee could still grow and glow under the family’s hard work.
