Certification background: The Japan Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives (JA Zenno) has been promoting the functional labeling of fruits since 2023. Fuji apples have been approved by the Japan Consumer Affairs Agency to be labeled as functional foods that "reduce visceral fat" because they contain a specific ingredient "proanthocyanidins."



Mechanism of action: Proanthocyanidins are a type of polyphenol compound, accounting for 50-60% of apple polyphenols. They can inhibit the activity of lipase in the small intestine, reduce the absorption of fatty acids and triglycerides, and thus reduce visceral fat accumulation.
