🛍 Product Information (Main) (English):
In the 16th century, the Portuguese introduced this banana from the Canary Islands in East Africa, and later it was brought to the Spanish colony of Hispaniola by Friar Tomás de Berlanga and spread to the Americas. Canary bananas are characterized by bright yellow peel dotted with black spots and yellow-orange flesh. Canary Island's mild climate allows the bananas to grow on the plant longer, making them sweeter and juicier than the more widespread Cavendish bananas.
Perfect for eating raw, in fruit salads, or making smoothies.
The Canary banana is not just any banana. It is a small Cavendish variety with yellow skin that has black spots when ripe. These spots, along with its sweet taste, are its biggest hallmarks.
Although the Canary Islands banana is the archipelago's representative fruit, its origins can be traced back to Southeast Asia, specifically India and Malaysia.
Banana plantations began to pop up across the archipelago from the early 15th century onwards as sailors transported goods to feed themselves on long voyages.
The Canary Islands played a crucial role in the discovery of the New World of America. Due to their geographical location, the Canary Islands were a convenient place for fleets to stop and resupply before continuing their voyage.
Additionally, the Canary Islands were very important in the trade of plants and crops, and had a major impact on agriculture and diet on both continents. The Canary Islands are the only region in the European Union where bananas are grown for sale, a practice that is regulated and protected through economic agreements between suppliers and consumers.
There are even special celebrations for it, such as the Banana Festival on the island of La Palma, where competitions and parades are organized to promote the banana.
