Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is native to South India and Malaysia, introduced to Hong Kong long ago and commonly grown in the New Territories. Locally cultivated in Tai Mo Shan’s Chuen Lung area, these organic fruits benefit from the region’s elevation, cooler temperatures, and pure mountain water, aligning with “不時不食” (eat seasonally) principles and supporting Hong Kong’s local farming community.
產地:原產印度及馬來西亞,在香港新界郊區廣泛種植;本地有機版來自大帽山川龍,利用山區優勢提供新鮮供應。
Ripe jackfruit has a sweet, fragrant tropical taste often described as a blend of pineapple, mango, banana, and honey, with a dense yet fibrous texture. The aroma is strong and distinctive. Young (green) jackfruit is milder, neutral, and meaty in texture, ideal for savory dishes. Organic local varieties tend to be exceptionally fresh and flavorful.
風味:成熟果肉香甜多汁,具熱帶水果綜合香氣(鳳梨、芒果、香蕉風味),果肉金黃纖維質感豐富;未熟果則清淡適合作為素食肉類替代品。
Jackfruit is nutrient-dense: rich in Vitamin C (immune support), potassium (heart health and blood pressure), dietary fiber (digestion), and antioxidants. It’s low in calories and fat, with moderate carbs, making it suitable for weight management and plant-based diets. Seeds are also edible when cooked, providing starch and additional nutrients.

Ripe jackfruit can be kept at room temperature for a few days or refrigerated (flesh) for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze the flesh or seeds. Whole large fruits are best consumed soon after harvest due to their size; cut portions should be covered to prevent oxidation.
